The picture should really give it away. I love the Challenger, especially the new one. I love the looks, the shape and it's presence that it has about itself compared to the of two pony cars. But If there's ONE thing I cannot stand, it's the size...

Kinja'd!!!

I mean yeah, gotta make cars "safer" which means bigger and heavier, which is alright I guess, but I just wish the Challenger could have been a wee bit smaller, lower, and lighter? I'm not the only one that's ever thought about this right?

Kinja'd!!!

I mean look at it!! I wish the Challenger was more "Camaro-sized", and weighed around 38-3900lbs.

As far as I'm concerned I think the unpopular opinion would be in favor of the challenger's heft.

Nah. Useable back seats are neat.

They're just too big and clumsy looking for me. They look super mean, but weigh a shitload and their size doesn't really continue to the interior.

Do you know who you're talking to here? You think this is an unpopular opinion?

That's why I said a "wee bit" smaller.

That's the problem when you make your muscle cars off of full size platforms rather than mid size platforms or compacts like they did back in the day.

Out of all of them, the Challenger is the best to ferry passengers around in.

I've driven/ridden in all the new muscle and the Challenger would be the easiest to live with, which is more in tune to the idea of the orginal muscle cars anyway—a family coupe with a large, sporting motor.

Oh I'd disagree on the interior. I was in a 2015 Scat Pack over the weekend, it was premium feeling and quite roomy. I'd love a Challenger, if I didn't think that it couldn't handle like a Mustang or Camaro, and that's probably a fact.

No matter how much you mod one, a Chally won't out handle the other two cars in the segment.

I don't know?? I kinda figured someone would go against my opinion and retort something about the roomier interior and such. (o_o)

It's a lot more useable than the Mustang and Camaro. First and foremost, it has really useable back seats. It has a huge trunk. It is comfortable. It wasn't meant to be a corner carver. It's a boulevard cruiser, and size doesn't really matter on that front.

So you're saying that if it was based off of something like a Stratus or Avenger, I'd have the Challenger I want?

I agree it's the most livable, but I'd think it depends on lifestyle. I could DD a Mustang or 911 without issue and would think the Challenger would be too big to use it's size to any advantage in my life. It rides very nice, especially the new one, but I'd still want fantastic handling to go with it.

It is the most "traditional" pony car so I guess it can't be helped.

Fun fact: The 1969 440 Challenger weighed nearly 4,000 pounds itself. And wasn't safe at all. And had less horsepower. The current Challenger weighs about the same, has more horsepower, and is tons safer. Just stuff to think about.

Fair enough. I still wish there was a way to make a Challenger a corner carver, and excellent DD at combined.

According to tests, the SRT's (actual SRT's, not Scat Pack) handle relatively well. They aren't Z28's or GT350's, but they are pretty decent.

I didn't know that. But it's still, while it is impressive they've kept the weight almost the same, it's still bigger, too big for my 5'10 self to comprehend. Then again, no car I've owned has exceeded 175in in length...

I don't think people should really be looking at muscle cars for fantastic handling to begin with, get a sports car or a GT car if you want that. You buy muscle cars for cruising and tire shredding; they were never anything special—just regular intermediates with large motors.

A rwd v8 coupe that is the size of an Avenger sounds like it would be a blast though and would be much better suited to someone who rarely has more than one passenger.

Personally, I like foot room and space to carry all my crap in addition to my v8 exhaust notes and burnouts. If I wanted a good handling car, it would be a weekend car and not a daily.

Fact of the matter, is that the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro aren't muscle cars. That's been force fed to us for years. They are and always have been Pony Cars. I personally reserve the term "muscle car" for The high performance models a la GT500, Hellcat and Z28. The Chally may be the closest to the original term of Muscle Car, but it still isn't one in my eyes.

Mustang and Camaro can hardly be called "muscle cars" now based on what you say about handling.

I rarely have more than one passenger in my car and if there are any more then it's my young cousins to drive them places. So I would rather that kinda car.

Dodge, make me that Avenger-sized RWD V8!

Pony cars are just overstyled and slightly smaller muscle cars lol

I call the modern ones muscle cars because they have full size chassis, but the classics certainly needed to be distinguised as pony cars.

The modern Camaro and Mustang emphasise handling because it will help them sell cars now, not so much back in 1969.

I'd love to see a "Z/28" kinda Challenger- smaller, lighter, more power but not Hellcat power, since it would be made for the track, lots of aero, huge rubber, black wheels, done

I've been saying this to everybody that everybody that gushes about it for years, but they don't listen. It's tallness is especially noticeable from the rear. It looks like there's nearly a foot of dead space between the bumper and the bottom of the car.

What's funny is that most of those "Mid size" cars from that era are the size of a Crown Vic, but the Challenger is BIGGER than the original.
